Tim Dawe
Penrod
CD
"A curio from the always-curious archives of Frank Zappa’s Straight label, 'Penrod' was a 1969 release from Tim Dawe (a.k.a. Jerry Penrod…hence the album title), a psychedelic folk-rocker who was briefly an early member of Iron Butterfly. The best-known song here is 'Junkie John', which was starting to get big-time airplay until the FCC cracked down on airplay for drug-themed songs, a clash between the 'straight' and 'bizarre' worlds that executive producer Zappa no doubt relished".
